It wasn't a long time, but it was a good time

The band treated those taking a vacation in Las Vegas to four fun-filled shows to close out April and usher in May. Huey Lewis and the News came to Vegas for an all-too-brief weekend. It wasn't a long time, but everyone had a good time to paraphrase one of the band's latest songs.

The guys closed the regular set of each show with that new song, titled "We're not here for a long time, but we're here for a good time." The song has the energy of "I Want a New Drug" with the heavy keyboards of "Old Antone's".

The band also brought out the acoustic guitars for the still-new "Let Her Go, Start Over" in the set each night, and let the horns (pictured here--Marvin, Rob, and Ron) "stretch out" as Huey explained it with "Plan B" in the encore each night. In "Plan B", Rob gets the first solo, followed by Ron, and Marvin cleans up with the story he tells. The song is a fun jazzy story.

The band filled in the sets each night with as many hits as they could. They played "Heart of Rock & Roll", "Heart and Soul", "Hip to be Square", "I Want a New Drug", "Couple of Days Off", "If this is it", "Doing It All For My Baby", and a slew of others.

Before the last show Huey did give an update on the new album. So far they have only actually recorded one song ("I Ain't Perfect, but I'm Perfect for You"). They do feel comfortable with nine others--the ones they played a little while back as the "Sports Section". They hope to record them towards the end of the year. The band has good ideas for two other songs and should have them ready long before the end of the year.

But Huey feels they are still two songs short of an album, simply because CDs can hold more material. Huey mentioned he may opt to record a song live, or do an acappella song, or perhaps a cover. But, he also seemed excited about some other high-tech possibilities including putting a bunch of pictures and such on the CD, or perhaps even a video for one of the new songs.
