Update: The album will be released August 13th. Aside from Bay Area distribution, Strokeland will currently be available only directly from their web site. It may be available on some foriegn distribution, but that is not final yet. The Strokeland Records web site is: www.strokeland.com.
As many of you know, Doc Kupka played for Tower of Power while Tower of Power was touring with Huey Lewis and the News as the horn section. Tower of Power has put out many stellar albums, but now Doc Kupka is about to put out an album by The Strokeland Superband titled "Kick it up a step!".
On it, Marvin McFadden (pictured, of the Huey Lewis and the News horn section, The News Brothers) plays on all songs and Huey sings lead vocals on two songs.
The album is scheduled to be released in June of 1998. Further information of where and exactly when the album will be available will be released here soon. Until then Strokeland Records has created a thorough web site at www.strokeland.com which contains the list of songs to be released on the album, the lyrics to each song, and music clips to be downloaded.
The two songs Huey appears on are titled "Work with me" and "Funky white blood." According to the page, "Work with me" is a driving, soulful rocker and contains a harmonica solo by Huey, and "Funky white blood" is a tongue-in-cheek piece.
In addition to playing on each track, Marvin has a trumpet solo on the final tune of the album, "A jump on the milennium."
