Tonight We're Going To Party Like It's 1999

Orlando, FL; Dec. 31 - What better way to start off the New Year than to see the old one off in sunny Orlando, Florida with a concert by Huey Lewis and the News? Those who were there would simply agree that there is no better way. Walt Disney World's Pleasure Island was the place to be, where all the parties were happening and the entrance tickets were sold out! Huey and the boys kicked it over on the Westend stage, playing two shows packed with rhythm, soul, and all the favorite hits. The first show went on at 8 p.m. sharp, and before the stage was even lit up, there was already a well defined crowd out in the audience awaiting to hear America's greatest rock and roll band. The concert opened up with "(She's) Some Kind of Wonderful", and everyone cheered graciously as they all danced along with the beat. Other songs performed that night were registered hits such as, "The Heart of Rock & Roll," "Heart and Soul," "Doin' It All For My Baby," "If This Is It," "But It's Alright," "Power of Love," "Hip To Be Square," and "I Want a New Drug." Also included were a capella favorites "60 Minute Man," and "It's Alright," and don't forget the new beloved closing number, "We're Not Here For a Long Time, but We're Here For a Good Time." Unfortunately, no encore was played after the first concert because the crowd simply wandered off after the band had left the stage! However, the second concert's audience decided to stick around a little and earn their encore, and that they did as Huey brought the News back out for "Workin' For a Livin'."

Huey Lewis and the News were not the only ones performing that night, as they shared the stage with modern rock band Sister Hazel, ("All For You") and some comedy from Police Academy's Michael Winslow.

All in all the evening was a great success, and a wonderful welcome to the year of 1999.
