Hallandale, FL; Jan. 3 - So what could be better than 70-degree
weather in Orlando at the beginning of January? That's right, it would
be 80-degree weather in Miami! Hallandale to be more exact, where Huey
Lewis and the News helped Gulf Stream Park Horse Track open up their new
season. They performed one outdoor concert at 2 p.m., but people had been
saving their spots in front of the stage since noon! An anxious audience
they were, but an energetic one they were not. Once Huey and the News
took the stage, everyone cheered for them, but they didn't bother getting
up off their blankets or lawn chairs. Despite this lack of enthusiasm,
Huey interacted with the audience extremely well, and the entire band
gave it their all as usual. By the end of the set and throughout the encore,
the crowd sang and danced to the beat of the music. The songlist included
everything mentioned in Orlando, with the addition of the new, amusing
tune, "My Other Woman's Got Another Man," and "Couple Days Off" was added
to the encore.
The band's wardrobe is well worth mentioning, as they all looked quite spiffy in their semi-formal attire. Huey sported a stylish brick red suit jacket with matching slacks, while Chris modeled a psychedelic silvery shirt, and Marvin showed off some jazzy fashion specks. However the fashion award of the day goes to Mr. Ron Stallings, with his sassy, happenin' silver suit! All the guys looked great, as they held their own well in the Florida heat, and showed Hallandale that the heart of rock and roll is still beatin'!
