With the the New Year and the official start of the new millenium, its nice to know that there is a band out there that can still rock the house. That's what Huey Lewis and the News did on December 30, 2000 at the Silver Legacy in Reno, NV.
The New Year's celebration started a day early with a party HLN style. They played to a sold out house and the energy they had on stage turned into electricity that filled the entire showroom.
There were fans throughout the concert that were getting up and dancing to the beat of the various songs. The song set had some new songs, some old songs and some a'capella songs. The list in no particular order included, "My Other Woman’s Got Another Man", "Heart Of Rock N’ Roll", "Power Of Love", "Too Hip To Be Square", "Do You Believe In Love" (New version). The two a'capellas: "60 Minute Man", which Huey joked was an autobiography and that there was a message in it for all of the men in the audience, and "Little Bit Of Soap" with an excellent solo from Sean Hopper.
Next was "Plan B" featuring solos from virtually everyone in the band. They also played "I Want A New Drug", "But Its All Right", "Surely I Love You", "Doing It All For My Baby", "I Ain’t Perfect, But I’m Perfect For You", "We’re Not Here For A Long Time, We’re Here For A Good Time", "If This Is It", and "He Don't Know". The encore had two songs and was ended with the ever so popular "Working for A Living". As for the anticipated new album, Huey said, "it will be out sometime in the New Millenium".
Towards the end of the exhilarating concert Huey asked everybody to get up and dance, and fans took that opportunity to make their way to the front of the stage and dance around there until the end of the show. All in all, a good time was had by all. The energy that fans had when they left that showroom will definitely last into the New Year.
