Cary, NC, 16 August 2003 - North Carolina waited seven years for the band that plays rhythm and blues with a whole lot of soul to darken their door, and the thousands who attended were not disappointed.
The Grammy award winning, Oscar nominated Huey Lewis and The News played a great set at the Regency Park Amphitheater in Cary, just outside of the state capital, Raleigh, that included at least one selection from all their records. It was a great venue to hear a live show from one of America's great Rock and Roll bands despite the rain during the last few minutes of the gig.
The set list included and in no particular order:
- We're Not Here For A Long Time (We're Here For A Good Time)
- My Other Woman
- The Heart Of Rock And Roll
- Trouble In Paradise
- Plan B
- The Rhythm Ranch
- Jacob's Ladder
- 60 Minute Man
- Pretty Girls
- But It's Alright
- I Want A New Drug/Small World, part 2
- Doing It All For My Baby
- Do You Believe In Love
- Power Of Love
- Back In Time
- Heart And Soul
- If This Is It
- Workin' For A Livin'
Highlights from the show included the song that started it all "Trouble In Paradise" - "Plan B" which allowed most of the band to "stretch out" and take a solo - "Jacob's Ladder" which featured a great volume swell solo from Stef Burns - The band's version of the Eugene Church classic "Pretty Girls," which was recommended to Huey (pictured here at a recent show by Kim Kemp) by Aaron Neville. Rob Sudduth also laid down a fat baritone sax solo for all the pretty girls - And last but not least a smooth bass guitar segue by John Pierce in "I Want A New Drug/Small World, part 2" (Once again, kudos to the soulful Rob Sudduth for his tenor sax solo and a trip down memory lane in "Small World, part 2").
It was a great time had by all and especially fans from North Carolina who haven't seen the band in awhile. The "tarheel" state says, "Come back Huey Lewis and The News!!!"
