Since it worked out so well last year (read: I didn't collapse into a ditch somewhere en route) I figured I'd do it again this year and bike from Southern Marin to Saratoga for the Saturday show on the 25th.  Anyone want to join me on this 60-65 mile excursion?

The route is over the Golden Gate and down to the Great Highway, then up and over Daly City.  Laugh heartily (or bitterly) at its "Elevation: 800 ft" sign before eventually hooking up with the 280 corridor as it follows the San Andreas fault.  Gently descend along the bucolic mid-peninsula lakes, prepared to yield for chipmunks and deer, and then catch the stick-straight Caņada Road to Woodside.  From there pass by the venture capitalists of Sand Hill road before jogging around Stanford.  The Foothill Expressway then takes you most of the way there before leaving you to fjord the traffic of Cupertino.  Fortunately there's only a few more flat roads until the final insult of the 1.5 miles up Pierce Mountain Road, which summits at the Mountain Winery gate.  Hitch a ride up the driveway (cyclists aren't permitted on it) and then you're there.  Piece of cake.

Anyone up for joining me?  And, more importantly, can anyone drive me back up to Marin after Friday's show so I can leave my car at the venue?

Apparently a year is long enough to forget what a stupid (and painful) idea this was.

But I made it, and I'll probably forget again by next year...

I realize this is a bit belated, but I wanted to note for the record in case someone makes me try to eat my words next year, that I'm really glad I did this ride.  Yes, I was a bit out of it for the show, which is bad but probably could have been abated with better diet and rest the preceding week.  And, yes, I was totally dependent on several nice people for logistical support (I'm not sure how I could have avoided that, but thanks to all who helped me out!).  But afterwards?  I felt great!  I would totally do it again.  Although perhaps not right away......
