From time to time folks may ask how to do certain things here on the forum.  Things such as how to attach/ insert a picture into a message, how to upload an avatar, how to create links out of words, etc.  It's my thinking that if one person asks, maybe there are more people who would like to know, so why not post answers to questions like that here?

So, don't be shy...

OK - here goes....

ALL your examples would be a great starting point. (Since I know I'm one that is always needing "guidance")

Alrighty--

To insert a picture into your message you must...

   1) Hit the reply button (or new topic)
   2) Write your message, (assumed)
   3) Below the box where you type is a highlighted link "Additional Options..."  click this.
   4) You will see "attach," a blank space and then a "browse" button.  Click the "browse" button which will open up to the files of your computer.  Locate
the pic you want to insert and double click.  The file path will now appear in that blank spot before the
       browse button.
   5)  If you are only uploading one pic, you are finished.  You will now click post.
   6)  If you are uploading more pics, click "more attachments" beside the "browse button and repeat step four.

This should do it.  One thing you want to be careful of, there is a file size limit of 128 kb per attachment.  If your pic is larger, it needs to be resized before uploading or you will get a notice that your file is too large.

   Hope this helps!

Had an email (just today!) from Sue_Bluz asking how to make words become highlighted links so I thought maybe others wanted to know too...

When linking to another page you simply use this code:  (without the underline)

[_url=http://the.web.address] the words you want highlighted followed by

So, if you were linking to the front page of hln.org but only wanted Huey to be highlighted, the code would look like this:

[_url=http://www.hln.org/] Huey

and would appear like this:   Huey

important: remove underline [_url=

Hope this helps Sue_Bluz and anyone else who was wondering. :)

I would like to suggest that any of us who knows the answer to the question should answer it here.  This definitely shouldn't be all on your shoulders.

I agree with Seanfan.  I think that maybe people should post questions asking how to do things on the forum here and then anyone that knows the answer can answer it for them.  That way, you don't have to do all of the work Deb. :)  We do appreciate all of the work you do, but it would be a way for others to help you out. :)

My problem is linking urls into posts.  I know how to insert the url, but my problem is how to 'get' the url.  Some websites have addresses that are about 6 inches long!  I have even resorted to writing the address on paper and then typing it in because I have either forgotten or never knew how to copy it.  If it's a really long url,  I usually say, "Forget it"!!!!!!!

Seanfan,  You can highlight the url by going into the address bar and right clicking beside the url.  The url should now be highlighted.  Now simply "control c" (copy)... then click where you want it in your post and "control v" (paste).  It's as simple as that!  wink

Let me know if this helps.
