I'm stealing this thread topic from another message board I read (but the other board isn't about music.)

Pick a singer, two guitarists, bassist, keyboard player and drummer.

Living or passed away musicians are ok, although you can do a living-only band and an all musicians band.

And of course, no HLN members because I'm sure we'd all just pick them.  :)

Finally, if you've got a reason to pick that group together (instead of just picking your non-HLN faves) explain it.

Here's my stab:

Singer: Colin Hay - Men at Work - very distinct voice, great singer. Check out his solo stuff if you don't believe me.
Lead Guitar: Les Paul or Stevie Ray Vaugh - a bluesy sound is what I like
2nd Guitar: Joe Perry - Aerosmith
Bass: Ultimately, I'd like Rocco, but he's a bit too funk... So in that case, I'd go with John Taylor of Duran Duran. Completely under-rated bass player.
Keys: Um, Sean Hopper? Failing that, Chester Thompson
Drums: Steve Erskine, Billy Ward or Kenny Aronoff

Weird mix, to be sure. But I bet it'd be a fun jam.

Here's my stab:

Singer: Gwen Stefani
Guitar1: James Taylor
Guitar2: B.B. King
Bass: Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue
Keyboard: Elton John
Drummer: Phil Collins

Maybe they wouldn't work out that great together, but wouldn't it be interesting to watch??

Singer: Freddie Mercury
To me, one of the best vocalists in rock and roll history.

Guitar1:Stevie Ray Vaughn
SRV just needs no explanation.

Guitar2:Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction)
Sure, he's a pretty boy, but I love his style.

Bass:Steve Lashley
Because I have to include my hometown boys, KC and the Sunshine Band somehow.

Keyboard:Rick Davies
Supertramp, what more can I say?

Drummer:Whoever played the drums on Hendrix's "Let Me Stand Next To Your Fire". I don't know who it is, don't feel like looking it up at the moment, but I want that guy.

I know this wouldn't count as it would include a second vocalist, but in my fantasy world, I would sell my big toe to see Freddie Mercury and Maria McKee perform a duet.

Lead Vocals: Paul McCartney
Lead Guitar: Jonny Lang
2nd Guitar: Rick Nielsen
Drummer: Don Henley
Keyboards: Billy Joel
Bass Guitar: Jane Wiedlin? (the one from the Go-Go's) or does Lita Ford play bass.  Maybe it's one of the Wilson sisters....

For some reason my choices are multi-talented. Paul sings, play guitar & piano. Jonny sings, plays guitar.  Don Henley sings, play drums and a little guitar.  Billy plays piano, sings & some harp

Neither Wilson sister plays bass.

Neither Jane Wiedlin nor Lita Ford play bass. (Go-Go Kathy Valentine and Jackie Fox/Micki Steele/another chick who was with The Runaways for 2 seconds did).

The drummer for The Jimi Hendrix Experience was the late Mitch Mitchell.

Just sayin'.  wink

Marbs, whatever our tastes in baseball, we can certainly agree on Freddie and Maria's respective talents.  smiley

I felt lucky to have remembered the guys names in the horn section - I bet it took me a good year early on to keep from confusing them....I'm always forgetting someone in whatever band is out there:  BonJovi - Jon Bon Jovi, Tico Torres, Richie Sambora, ?? or Cheap Trick - Rick Nielsen, Bun E. Carlos, Robin Zander, ??

I have to go with artists I have actually seen perform live:

Vocals and Guitar: Ryan (yes, Ryan) Adams
Guitar: John Squire (Stone Roses)
Guitar: Vernon Reid (Living Colour)
Bass: John Entwhistle (The Who)
Drums: Meg White  wink Dave Grohl (Nivana)

I'd have to reserve a guest vocal spot for Posdnuos & Trugoy from De La Soul

I don't much fancy the noise they'd all put together though!
