Yeah, I know Matsui can hit a baseball, but I just felt he wasn’t the SERIES MVP. Like Bill said, he was the player of the game for Game 6. A few commentators said they wouldn’t have or (couldn’t) because he didn’t play much. Now Damon’s rally at the end of Game 4 was amazing.
does anyone recall if Matsui had any walks in the World Series?
Can't say that I can, Mr. Rob.
Now, why do you want to tease me ?  I pulled for your team to win! You must remember, before the Giants and Dodgers moved west in '58, I was a wide-eyed kid just turned on to baseball and you'll never guess who my team was. That's correct, ladies and gentlemen, The New York Yankees. LONG before most of you were even a twinkle in your Daddy's eye.
Come on, that's not surprising... what kid did not love the Yankees back then? They had heroes.

Now, why do you want to tease me ?

For sport. It's fun!

But remember, I've been hassling you a long time... WELL before the Yankees started getting their act together and remembering how to win championships.  You think that with a lot of money you could build a championship team?  Then explain the 1980s.  Lots of expensive players, but no team.  Meanwhile, Moneyball (when the A's management isn't being psychotic) shows that you can also build champion teams on the cheap.

I went to the World Series in person in 1996 (and if you think YOU'RE a good prognosticator, that year I planned my travel to the World Series in AUGUST) and bought an official souvenir sweatshirt that listed the names of all the players (except, inexplicably, Jim Leyritz).  The fact that so many names on that shirt are in that parade today is (a) amazing, and (b) why they're champions.  THAT'S a team.

You must remember, before the Giants and Dodgers moved west in '58, I was a wide-eyed kid just turned on to baseball and you'll never guess who my team was.

So you understand how I fell in with the Yankees.  But interestingly, if the Giants and Dodgers had never moved, I probably wouldn't have.  Maternal side rooted for the Dodgers, paternal the Giants.  They all hated the Yankees.  But the moves broke their hearts and interest in baseball, so I was on my own to find the Yankees to fill the vacuum.

Interesting note: The AL team with the 2nd most World Series Championships to the Yanks 27 ?   The A's. (9)

This is why I can tease you in good conscience smiley

I was a little surprised that Matsui got the MVP honors and with only 13 at bats the whole series.
The man can hit a baseball!
So Lindsey, what's a B.P.P?
What can I say, I'm a better person picker... it's an inside thing Wink

Sure CG. Folks, NEVER argue with a lawyer. Even if they're wrong they'll find a way to win. So when the Yanks tank next year, I'll be all over you. Just for sport.

Just ask the Rockies, even when they can't afford to keep their star playing free agents, they did alright this year.  Besides, look at Holiday, he more than made up for his time in Oakland when he moved to St. Louis and got right back to his Rockie ways.  Surely he was being paid enough during the slump?

Seems like the series seemed even more surreal and less hot dogs and apple pie, no matter if I'm an eye-twinkle or not.  I'm just grateful Selig hasn't instituted expanding instant replay!

Wait, in what way am I wrong? (And what did I win?) Teams with money sometimes win, sometimes lose. The same is true for teams without.  Lawyer or not, I don't see the controversy.

So when the Yanks tank next year, I'll be all over you. Just for sport.

Should the opportunity arise, that sounds fair.  This is what you had in mind when you named your album "Sports," right?

To quote another Bill (in your defense Calgrad) "Baseball is almost the only orderly thing in a very unorderly world. If you get three strikes, even the best lawyer in the world can't get you off. - Bill Veeck

He also said there are only two seasons, winter and baseball, so in that spirit, I'll leave a few fun quotes for those who might be missing their daily fix :)

"Baseball players are smarter than football players. How often do you see a baseball team penalized for too many men on the field?" - Jim Bouton

"Baseball is a game where a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you like except in the umpire's eye or on the ball." - Jim Murray

"I knew when my career was over. In 1965, my baseball card came out with no picture." - Bob Uecker

"Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical." - Yogi Berra

"The trouble is not that players have sex the night before a game. It's that they stay out all night looking for it." - Casey Stengel

"If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant's life, she will choose to save the infant's life without even considering if there is a man on base." - Dave Barry

"Baseball hasn't forgotten me. I go to a lot of old-timers games and I haven't lost a thing. I sit in the bullpen and let people throw things at me. Just like old times." - Bob Uecker

I always thought a lawyer's forte was arguing....and that winning was a bonus, esp. when presenting it with such finesse :0)
